DOVER-FOXCROFT--- Michael Turner pitched five solid innings and had the game winning hit to help the Hermon Hawks earn their seventh win on Wednesday afternoon. Turner allowed one earned run on five hits and he didn't walk a batter to propel the Hawks to a 5-2 victory at Foxcroft Academy.
Hermon got things started quickly, when Tyler Thayer led off the game with a walk. He stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a Tyler Beaton grounder.
Turner retired the first seven batters he faced, including throwing only five pitches to get three outs in the bottom of the second inning.
Foxcroft tied the game at 1, when Abe Simpson hit a single that scored Nate Church during the bottom of the third inning.
Matt Leach started the fifth inning with a walk, he came around to score on Beaton's second RBI of the game. The Ponies responded quickly in the bottom half of the inning. Church led off with a double and came around to score on an Eli Olsen single.
Turner hit a single that scored Quentin Wood and Connor Farmer to give the Hawks a 4-2 lead during the top of the sixth inning. That hit secured the pitching victory for Turner. Beaton pitched two scoreless innings to record the save.
Hermon (7-3) will travel to Caribou for a doubleheader on Saturday. The Hawks are currently sixth in the class B MPA heal point standings.
The Ponies were playing without three regular starters. Clay Carroll is out with an injury. Hunter Law and Brooks Law also missed the game due to a family commitment. Foxcroft (5-4) will travel to Presque Isle for a doubleheader on Saturday.
