Michael Rooker on 'Walking Dead' Merle: Spoilers

Merle is everyone's favorite "Walking Dead" character to hate, however, now that The Governor has shown his true colors, it seems as if the tables may be turning. On March 16 Michael Rooker, who plays Merle, sat down with Access Hollywood to talk about what fans can expect for the rest of this season with his unpredictable character. Rooker says that fans may be surprised.

Spoiler Alert: Michael Rooker shares details of his character, Merle, that are considered spoilers. If you wish to not know "Walking Dead" season three details in advance, do not read further.

Rooker says that first and foremost, he's a survivor. Fans can't judge him by today's civilized standards because Merle doesn't live in a civilized world anymore, therefore, he should be judged on zombie apocalypse standards. This means that Merle should be judged on survival of the fittest standards, which Merle definitely qualifies.

While most fans have though of Merle as a jerk, because that's how he acts, he has invaluable information that could be very helpful to Rick who could use all the help that he can get. Rooker shares that he doesn't know whether Merle and Michonne will ever get along, but fans should expect the unexpected from him because he's very unpredictable.

As we recently saw when Daryl, Merle's younger brother, chose him over Rick's group, the Dixon brothers have had to learn to survive all their lives and have had to stick together to keep on living. His thinking is that he will do anything to survive and you simply can't save everyone, like the family that was being attacked. Whether they were saved now, or not, they will likely have become zombie food a couple days later once they ran out of gas. It's unfortunate there was a child involved, but it happens.

Rooker concludes that fans can expect the unexpected of Merle and while his heart is likely not going to grow three times its size, he will do whatever it takes to survive, even if it means playing nice with Team Prison.

What do you think of these "Walking Dead" spoilers? Do you think Merle Dixon has stuck with his jerk persona or is he finally beginning to show a little heart?
