Since retiring from swimming, Michael Phelps has spent plenty of time on the golf course. On Thursday, though, Phelps took time out from golfing to try out something different: batting practice.
While in Sarasota, Fla., Phelps visited the Baltimore Orioles at spring training, and he even got a few cracks in at batting practice. Phelps is a Baltimore native.
While taking bp, Phelps was dressed in a orange jersey with No. 18 on the back — the same number of gold medals Phelps won during his Olympic career. Phelps said it was the first time he’d swung a bat since he was a little leaguer, according to the Associated Press.
The 27-year-old looked pretty comfortable in the cage. You can see him batting in this video, which is the same as the one shown to the left.
Phelps is in Sarasota to work on his golf swing and film “The Haney Project.” The reality TV show, in which Phelps works to improve his golf game with coach Hank Haney, is scheduled to air on the Golf Channel.
Haney, who has coached the likes of Tiger Woods, was with Phelps to take batting practice with the Orioles. In the video, you can see Haney (No. 72) approach the plate as Phelps walks away.
