Though the top-rated daytime soap for 25 years, CBS' The Young & the Restless (Y&R) has been named 2013's "Worst Soap" by Soap Opera Digest (SOD), and it's about to get even worse.
Yesterday, Michael Muhney has confirmed that he has let go from Y&R after playing love-to-hate but hate-to-love Adam Newman for over four years. The actor was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor at this year's Daytime Emmys, and just signed on for two more years at Y&R.
According to Muhney's statements on his Twitter account, tomorrow will be his last day on set.
Muhney became a fan favorite when he took over for Chris Engen in 2009 as the "black sheep" of the Newman family who shares a complex father-son relationship with Victor (Eric Braeden) and sibling rivalries with brother Nicholas (Joshua Morrow), and sisters Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Abby.
Adam went on to fell in love with Sharon Newman (Sharon Case), a relationship that many has called "dark", "inappropriate, yet red-hot", and twisted over Sharon forgiving the man who kidnapped her daughter Faith.
Still, "Shadam" became popular with fans, as well as "Chadam", where Adam found a kindred spirit with Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan), the mother of his son Connor, aka "Peanut".
Besides his role as Adam Newman on Y&R, Muhney is also known for his role as Sheriff Don Lamb on Veronica Mars.
Muhney's final Y&R airdate will be January 30th.
