Michael Muhney fans release video tribute, plan boycott of 'Y&R'

Fans of the “Young and the Restless” have not been happy with the storylines nor what seems to be the ousting of several veteran actors, but Michael Muhney fans have been the most vocal, posting video tributes and planning boycotts of the popular CBS daytime soap opera.

Vonda Smith of #TeamMuhney posted a video to YouTube on Jan. 20 dedicated to Michael Muhney, who had portrayed Adam Newman on “Y&R” since 2009. Muhney was abruptly fired on Dec. 18 and the internet has been rife with rumors and speculation for weeks.

The video tribute contains photos submitted by fans. In many of the candid photos Michael is smiling and appears to be joking around and enjoying himself. The photos paint a vastly different picture than the one co-star Eric Braeden would like fans to believe when he gave an interview about Michael to Radar Online.

“Young and the Restless” viewers who have come to love not only the character of Adam Newman, but the man who portrays him, have vowed to boycott the show following Muhney’s last episode which will air on Jan. 30. Interestingly enough co-star Greg Rikaart, who portrays Kevin Fischer, tweeted last week that “The Young and the Restless” had its highest ratings in three years. Many attribute this to the fact that fans are watching as the writing team of “The Young and the Restless” attempts to put to bed, at least for now, the character of Adam Newman.

At this time there are no plans to recast the role of Adam Newman. Industry insiders including former "Y&R" executive producer Maria Arena Bell say it is best to put the character “on the shelf” for six months and then recast.
