Jeanne Cooper portrayed Katherine Chancellor on “The Young and the Restless” for 40 years and her death was a great loss to not only the cast and crew of “Y&R” but to the fans. The “Y&R” writing team was challenged with giving the character a proper good-bye.
For some time a life- size cardboard cut-out of a smiling Jeanne Cooper stood in the hair and make-up room. An exclusive interview on Feb. 26 with a source knowledgeable of the daily happenings on the set of “The Young and The Restless", reveals that Muhney was “creeped out” by the cut-out of Jeanne and asked that it taken out of the room. Muhney was very upset that the cast and crew insisted the cut-out would remain.
Muhney was also bothered by the fact that after Jeanne Cooper’s death her dressing room was left as is, including leaving her nameplate on the door and would remain so. The source says that Muhney tried to remove Jeanne Cooper’s nameplate from her dressing room door. The cast and crew on the set of “The Young and the Restless” were horrified by these actions and behavior.
Many will say that Muhney was unfairly terminated from his role as Adam Newman on the top-rated CBS daytime drama. Others will say that there were many instances that had been addressed repeatedly by executives at CBS and Sony and that whatever the proverbial “straw that broke the camel’s back” was the reason for Michael Muhney’s termination it was not related to an instance with a younger female cast member.
