Michael Moore: Obama should 'show some guts' and arrest head of S&P

The Washington Times reports that Michael Moore has inserted himself into the downgrade debacle by calling on President Obama to arrest the leaders of S&P, the agency that downgraded America's credit rating to AA+.

“Pres Obama, show some guts & arrest the CEO of Standard & Poors. These criminals brought down the economy in 2008& now they will do it again,” Moore wrote on the social networking site Twitter.

Victor Morton writes at the Times:

On his Twitter feed Monday, the Oscar-winning film director also blamed the 2008 economic collapse on Standard & Poor’s — apparently because it and other credit-ratings agencies did not downgrade mortgage-based bonds, which encouraged the housing bubble and let it spread throughout the economy.

According to Moore, the “owners of S&P are old Bush family friends,” and that, apparently is enough for Obama to arrest them.

The Times notes this is a familiar theme in many of Moore's "documentaries," in which he rails against the very capitalist system that has made Moore a multi-millionaire.

Moore cited an instance reported by the UK Guardian, where police raided the offices of S&P in Milan.  Morton reported: "Italian police were searching for evidence on whether the rating agencies, in the words of a local prosecutor, “respect regulations as they carry out their work”."

“Here’s how they roll in Italy when it comes to these bastards,” Moore tweeted.

Morton contined:

Mr. Moore did not note that Italy’s government is led by a conservative prime minister, Silvio Berlusconi, a business tycoon who also has long been accused by his country’s liberals and leftists of overseeing and benefiting from a system of crony capitalism.

In March, Moore - reportedly worth an estimated $50 million - declared war on the rich while egging on protests in Wisconsin.

While appearing on MSNBC's Rachel Maddow program, Moore called for the arrest of rich people whom he claimed "stole" all their millions - failing to note that by his own definition, he would also be arrested as a thief.  Holding a set of handcuffs, he declared:

I brought these with me. I'd like anybody who works on Wall Street, anybody who works for one of the banks, just take a look at this, OK? (holds up cuffs) 'Cause this is what, this is what's coming, this is what's coming for you. Because the people aren't going to take it anymore. The people are going to demand justice. They're going to 'mand, they're going to demand that your ass is in jail. You've taken our money. We want the money back.
Perhaps this is what Joe Scarborough meant when he spoke of "terminally stupid ideologues" who are "so dogmatic" they "can’t think" for themselves.
