Michael McDowell returns to NASCAR Sprint Cup with Phil Parsons Racing

He has started 114 Sprint Cup races and is still looking for his first top-10 finish but Michael McDowell is looking forward to the 2013 season.

The 29-year old from Phoenix has a full-time ride in NASCAR’s top series returning to Mooresville, North Carolina based Phil Parsons Racing, formerly MSRP Motorsports, Prism Motorsports and most recently HP Racing, to drive the No. 98 Ford Fusion.

Roush Yates Engines will supply the power plants for PPR and sponsorship for the entire season is still being worked on, however, K-LOVE Radio will be back to sponsor at Daytona and potentially more races later in the schedule while Curb Records is returning as an associate sponsor for the season and will serve as primary sponsor at a to-be-announced event.

"Everything is coming together for us to have a great season," McDowell said in a release. "We have new cars, new bodies and lots of potential. Our team has really hustled over the off season to get us prepared for 2013. They've put together some awesome cars, and with Roush Yates horsepower under the hood, I know we can run with some of the best teams in the sport. I have a lot to look forward to this year and can't wait for the green flag in Daytona."

McDowell’s first Sprint Cup race came at the Goody's Cool Orange 500 at Martinsville Speedway on March 30, 2008 starting 34th and finished 26th in a Toyota behind winner Denny Hamlin. Of his 114 races he has had 87 DNFs, many of the start and park variety. In his Nationwide Series career that began in 2007, he has 83 starts with one pole (2011), three top-5s and 18 top-10s.

Gene Nead will serve as McDowell’s crew chief for PPR who merged with Whitney Motorsports and partnered with entertainment icon Mike Curb.

"I've never been more excited about the beginning of a season," team owner Phil Parsons said. "We have some great relationships that are continuing, as well as some new ones, which have us very optimistic about 2013. I want to thank K-LOVE, Curb Records, Hyde Park Storage Suites and Ford for all of their support. Their partnerships have allowed us to grow and develop as a team, and we look forward to a great year with them."
