A slew of actors have been cast in the upcoming sequel to the hit summer horror film, “The Purge,” according to a Dec. 17 report from The Hollywood Reporter. One of those is “Boardwalk Empire” actor Michael K. Williams, whom many know as Chalky White. The report did not state the character he would play.
Other actors just added include “Sparkle” star Carmen Ejogo; “Friday Night Lights” actor Zach Gilford; and “A Perfect Getaway” actress Kiele Sanchez. “Homefront” actor Frank Grillo will star and James DeMonaco will return to write and direct the sequel.
It’s reported that the plot will be similar to the first film, where all forms of crime is allowed and accepted for one day each year for a 12-hour period of time.
“The Purge” was made on a budget of $3 million and went on to make $89.3 million worldwide. The sequel will hit theaters on June 20, 2014.
Williams will reprise his role as Chalky in the fifth season of “Boardwalk Empire,” which premieres in the fall of 2014. He can currently be seen in the acclaimed drama, “12 Years a Slave,” and will be seen in the upcoming futuristic action remake, “RoboCop.”
