A Michael Jordan look alike hoax was played on Utah fans last night at the McKay Events Center in Utah.  A Michael Jordan look-alike was hired to show up at the Utah Flash’s home opener.  The center promised that Michael Jordan would show up to play Utah guard Bryon Russell in a one-on-one at halftime.

When Michael Jordan gave his Hall of Fame acceptance speech in September, Jordan called Russell out his trash talk. The owner of the Utah Flash, Brandt Anderson attempted to capitalize on that statement and offered $100,000 to the charity of the winner’s choice in a one-on-one competition. Michael Jordan didn’t respond to the challenge, but Anderson continued to promote it, and he hired a look-a-like to pretend he was Michael Jordan and show up at the season opening game. Russell knew it was a hoax and attempted to go along with it.

Over 7,500 Utah fans were angry and booed when they realized the man who walked onto the court wasn’t Michael Jordan. Cheerleaders threw t-shirts into the crowd in an attempt to appease them, but the fans threw them right back. Most fans were so upset that they left the events center.

Anderson apologized on Tuesday for the hoax, but said it was in good fun. He also offered free tickets to a future game for those fans who attended the home opener.
