Michael Johns, a finalist for season seven of “American Idol” has died. Fans will never forget the 35-year-old’s talent, which he showcased as a finalist in the seventh season as one of the fans' favorites back in 2007. Johns’ family released a statement of the singer’s passing today, according to USA Today on Aug 2.
While there is no official report from the family on Johns’ cause of death, The Hollywood Reporter, along with other celebrity outlets, is reporting that he died from a blood clot in his ankle. The family’s statement expresses their devastation over the singer’s sudden passing.
The family also passed along a word of thanks for the outpouring of love they are receiving from “all corners of the globe.” They ask that you keep Michael in your thoughts and they wish for everyone to respect their privacy during this time.
The family is mourning the sudden loss of a son, a husband, a father, a brother an uncle and a friend and this is a difficult time for the family, as you would expect. The people at Fox and “Idol” got together along with two of the series producers to release a statement on the death of Johns.
Johns, who is the first “American Idol” finalist to die since the conception of the show back in 2002. When Johns was eliminated from “American Idol,” it was one of the biggest shocks to date. He was a fan favorite and many had hopes for him to win the season.
Johns’ elimination was one of the reasons that the producers of the show created the judges “save.” If it had been around during that season, Johns’ might have gone a lot further. He had just made the cut-off age for the “Idol” competition, which is 28, and that is how old Johns was when he entered the competition.
After “American Idol” he released an album, “Hold Back My Heart” in 2009 and an EP in 2012,“Love and Sex.” He was on “American Idol” in the season that aired in 2007.
