Michael Jackson - what's his childhood got to do with it?

Michael Jackson said in an interview that "if you really want to get to know me..." you should listen to the most autobiographical song I've ever written called, "Childhood."

Following up on Michael Jackson - The Man where I posed questions about who he was as a person shaped by his experiences - vs Michael Jackson the superstar, the following lyrics to this song may help do that.

In his own words:

Childhood by Michael Jackson

No one understands me
They view it as such strange eccentricities...
'Cause I keep kidding around
Like a child, but pardon me...

People say I'm not okay
'Cause I love such elementary things...
It's been my fate to compensate,
for the Childhood
I've never known...

Have you seen my Childhood?
I'm searching for that wonder in my youth
Like pirates in adventurous dreams,
Of conquest and kings on the throne...

Before you judge me, try hard to love me,
Look within your heart then ask,
Have you seen my Childhood?

People say I'm strange that way
'Cause I love such elementary things,
It's been my fate to compensate,
for the Childhood (Childhood) I've never known...

Have you seen my Childhood?
I'm searching for that wonder in my youth
Like fantastical stories to share
But the dreams I would dare, watch me fly...

Before you judge me, try hard to love me.
The painful youth I've had

Have you seen my Childhood....

Whatever your views on Michael be it, "He was a genius...He was a child molester...He was an icon...He was a freak...," it's hard to ignore the fact that he was a man who was shaped by his experiences, not unlike any of us.

How dare you falsely accuse him of being a child molester. WHY don't you spend your time fighting against REAL crimes against children? Go to DC and FIGHT FOR children! You greedy selfish useless person!

  • Mallie 2 years ago

What do you define as a freak? Look in the mirror what do you see? I guess whatever I call you? As far as a child molester, Its funny that your opinion is based on one child. Who's family could have been after one thing....money.... . Children all over the world would disagree with your opinion. So you choose to take the negative side. Not unlike many in this world....He was accquited by a jury. I suppose that means nothing to you either. Maybe others will disregard you and your opinion. Good luck my friend.

In response to Mallie and lskfjsdlkfjsd: You both misunderstood my point by a mile. I do not personally believe that Michael Jackson was a "child molester" or a "freak." I was attempting to get people to look at him from a position of empathy. I posted the words to his most personal song depicting his sadness! I'm struggling to understand how my words have been interpreted this way. What I said was, "Whatever your views on Michael be it, 'He was a genius...He was a child molester...He was an icon...He was a freak...," none were a declaration of my personal opinion. It's almost like you both skipped over this entire post and targeted these words - and then took them out of context. If I'm missing something here and I'm unintentionally putting out the wrong message I'd like to hear from someone else. I hate that I've been so horribly misunderstood on this one. But I'm open to the possibility that somehow it's coming off differently than was my intention - so please chime in!

Your message was completely clear! Unfortunately, some choose to filter only the words they wish to read and then attach meaning to them that was not intended in order to find excuse to vent displaced anger toward an easy target. Unfortunately, the words you posted have been splashed across the media for years. You in no way projected those words as your personal opinion. My sympathies go to the two who "deliberately chose" to read only a few words and launch into mindless rants ~ missing the point of your article completely! Obviously, the two clueless critics are prime examples of your final words, it's hard to ignore the fact that he was a man who was shaped by his experiences, not unlike any of us." Great job! Thanks for sharing!

Hello readers of this comment. If ANY!

The written words are merely 7% of the content. The rest is in the interpreters conscious. Which

    is fourfold.

    I INTERPRET that the following Quote's Author makes the same conclusion as I do;

"Vi ser saker inte som de är, vi ser saker som vi är" Anaïs Nin

There's NO coincidence that I choose the Swedish translation of Nin's Quote.

I wish all the people who´d stolen money from Michael Jackson on the way they do, that every penny they had and will spend on that money by a growing guilty feeling. They have to pay for their wrong behavior; out- and inside their own. Also the people who didn´t ever tried to understand Michael´s magical and indescribable artistics and his unimitable character, should shut up before saying or writing feckless words, they only say / write, cause they´ll all never ever become in such a circumstance, so they never ever couldn´t feel like a star as Michael Jackson was and ever will be.
In my opinion Michael Jackson could never die, cause his real music and artist magic live in our hearts, as long as we´ll think of Michael Jackson and hear his music to fly with him a little way...

Lisa, Where did you find that interview? Was that part of the Martin Bashir interview? I saw a clip of it on CNN and was looking for the rest...

  • Doug 2 years ago

I think people simply misread your last paragraph and thought the comments in quotes reflected your opinion. I did stop and reread that paragraph.

  • Lisa Brookes Kift, SF Marriage and Relationships E 2 years ago

Jenn - I saw that piece on CNN but I'm pretty sure it was part of the Martin Bahir interview.

i understand what you said ...some people dont know there venaculer.
People..if you would re-read what she said you will see she did not call Michael Jackson a freak or a child molester.
She said whether you think(be it) that he was a molester or freak or icon etc...not that she thinks that .DUH!!!

This is exactly what I've been saying all week. He really was a damaged soul. He had no childhood. No wonder he was eccentric. I feel so sad for the lost little boy that he was!
