The sudden death of Michael Jackson has left a lot of people in shock. I can't imagine another modern entertainer whose death could inspire thousands of people to show up at his hospital just to stand around and be a part of the experience.
For me, the quintessential Michael Jackson moment wasn't on record, or in one of his videos. His performance at Motown's 25th anniversary in March of 1983, which aired on NBC in May, was the moment that grabbed the attention of the world.
Even now, it's amazing to watch how he commanded the stage. On a night where some of the greatest musicians in history were performing, Jackson stole the show.
It's at the 3:46 point of the video when the world-famous moonwalk occurs. Although he wasn't the first to do the move, he was the first person to do it on the national stage, and inspired millions of imitators, dancers, and Corey Feldman.
