Michael Jackson’s memorial service began with a rendition of We Are Going to See the King as his golden casket rolled down the aisle and was positioned in its place of honor in the front of the stadium. Michael’s brothers wore silver sequined gloves and served as pall bearers.
Michael Jackson picked out his own casket after attending James Brown’s funeral. His brass casket, with gold overlay and velvet lining, set Michael back 25K. Aside from the casket, the service itself was modestly done for a star of his caliber.
Rev. Al Sharpton implied that because President Obama watched Michael Jackson overcome racial barriers, Barack was empowered to do the same. Rev Sharpton drew some conclusions that were a little farfetched, but we’ve come to expect that from him.
The most touching tributes came from Brooke Shields and Paris Jackson. Brooke talked about the close friendship she and Michael shared and his daughter, Paris, told the world how much she loved him.
Many of the eulogies crossed the line from adulation to worship. Some openly defended his character, a few were there for political gain, but most shared how much his life and music touched their hearts.
Mariah Carey, Smokey Robinson, Usher, John Mayer, Stevie Wonder, Brook Shields, Martin Luther King III and Magic Johnson were some of the many celebrities attending.
Pastor Lucious Smith eloquently closed the service and brought it all into perspective with this line, “But even now the King of Pop must bow his knee to the King of Kings.” Beautifully poignant. What do you think? Is Michael Jackson in Heaven?

I agree with you, Jan. I thought that the intro to Michael Jackson's memorial was a little sacrilegious. But the rest of memorial was done really well. His daughter's poise was astounding. He would be proud of her.
Very interesting. While I did hear many express how much touch MJ's daughter touched them, this is my first time hearing anyone exalt Brooke Shields' tribute in such a way. Just as interesting is the fact that many felt that Stevie Wonder, Al Sharpton, Usher, Mr. Gordy, & Smokie Robinson (among others) tributes were far more touching than Brooke Shields'. But, at the end of the day, i guess it all boils down to this article simply being based on one person's opinion.
