On December 27, director Spike Lee released the new official music video for Michael Jackson's song, "This Is It."
The first part of the music video takes place in Jackson's hometown of Gary, Indiana, showing the house that he grew up in, and the street signs for 2300 Jackson Street and Jackson Family Boulevard. Childhood images of Michael Jackson are interspersed with different shots from the town of Gary, evoking the feeling of what Michael's childhood was like.

The video then moves on to images of Michael performing as an adult with his audience of adoring fans around the world. Images of Michael with animals and children are featured.
Finally, images from after Michael's death are shown including fans wearing sequined gloves, messages written in tribute to Michael, and scenes from the Apollo Theater in Harlem, Jackson's Hollywood Star in LA and the gates of his Neverland Ranch.
The final shot returns to the home in Gary, Indiana with a black stool sitting in front with Jackson's trademark black fedora and white glove under a spotlight. The music video is a fitting tribute to the King of Pop.
Director Spike Lee was a friend of Michael Jackson's having directed him in the two music videos for Jackson's controversial song from 1996, "They Don't Care About Us." After Michael died, Spike Lee organized a public birthday party for Jackson which was held in Brooklyn's Prospect Park on August 29, 2009.

I'm glad Spike Lee is doing this. I wish the rehearsal footage had been given to him, in the first place, so that he could have done an honest, thoughtful documentary. The film "This Is It" still smells of exploitation. I'd still like to see a list of who financially benefited from that one and how Sony got paid for handing over the rehearsal footage.
