Michael Jackson's homeschooled kids

For most of the TV viewing world, the past few days have been taken up with news of Michael Jackson.  Now most of the stories are focusing on the future of his kids.

I was pretty surprised yesterday to hear a comment from a newsperson that I respected saying over and over that the kids were homeschooled, and that was not normal.  They were saying that the kids needed a "normal life" and an end to homeschooling.  I was appalled!

While Michael Jackson's life was strange, or odd, homeschooling was probably the best thing he could do for his small children who would have been targeted by greedy and selfish people had they gone to regular school.  Many, many Hollywood stars homeschool their own kids.

Some famous people who homeschool are Will and Jada Smith, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Kelly Preston and John Travolta, and many more.

Having something happen to me is a big worry as a homeschooler.  Will my family members continue to homeshool my kids as we have requested, or will they take the chance to do something more "normal" that won't be best for my kids?  I know I have made arrangements for my children by placing them with a family member with our educational philosophy.  I hope Michael Jackson has done the same.

    Andrea,
I agree. Changing what is constant for those kids, in this case their schooling, can be potentially damaging. it's like that case earlier this year when two parents divorced and one was suing to have the kids taken away from an admittedly successful and nurturing homeschooling environment.
If anything happened to me or my husband, the next of kin would have to keep our kids in their little charter school. Our school is our second family and we look out for eachother. I could not fathom my kids being ripped from both.
