Michael Jackson's former pet, and animal actor, Bubbles, a chimpanzee, was born at a biomedical research facility in Austin, Texas, in 1983. Jackson bought Bubbles when he was a young chimp, and the chimp lived at Neverland and was trained by Bob Dunn.
According to E.I. Rottersman with Florida Weekly, Bubbles was removed from Neverland when he grew too big. He was moved to the trainer's California home and compound. But in 2005 when Mr. Dunn retired from animal training he sent all his apes, including Bubbles, to the Center for Great Apes.
Michael Jackson's former pet, chimpanzee Bubbles, is alive and well, is still living at the Center for Great Apes, and the center he lives at, for those Florida readers, is located in Wauchula, Florida. Anyone interested could maybe pay him a visit!
Michael Jackson never visited Bubbles in Florida. And there has been the question if Bubbles' care will be provided for from Jackson's estate.
The Center for Great Apes is a sanctuary for chimpanzees and oranguatans in Wauchula, approximately 70 miles north of Fort Myers, Florida. Bubbles has been at this location since 2005.
The Center for Great Apes accomodates 42 chimpanzees and orangutans on 120 acres. Patti Ragan is the founder and director of Center for Great Apes. Ragan says, of 26 year old Bubbles,
He's a wonderful chimpanzee. We have lots of celebrities here, and we treat them all the same. We try to keep their lives as rich as we can."
The only funds the Center receives is through private donations, Ms. Ragan said, and anyone wishing to support Bubbles or any of the other chimpanzees or apes can contribute at The Center for Great Apes. She also said, to Florida Weekly, that they would be grateful for any support.
