Get set to experience a new kind of Grammy viewing experience this year. Scheduled to air on CBS at 8pm ET/PT January 31, 2010, there will be a special tribute to Michael Jackson. The never-before-seen 3-D mini-movie Earth Song will be shown. This is the first time a 3-D Grammy experience will be broadcasted, making it an important technological breakthrough as well.
Originally, Earth Song was supposed to be the centerpiece of the This Is It tour. The 3-D mini-movie was created to support his number one original composition musical hit. Michael Jackson had hoped to take the opportunity during his tour to spread the message to the world about the destruction of our planet's nature and animals by man. It was intended to be a wake up call of what is happening to our planet at this very moment. The entire experience was geared to make everyone re-evaluate their actions and beliefs.

Michael Jackson's untimely passing on June 25, 2009 delayed his message. But thanks to the Grammys, the world will get to see and hear his message afterall. Ken Ehrlich, Grammy co-Executive Producer, was one of the lucky few who was at Jackson's last rehearsal and had a chance to see Earth Song. He said, "It was one of the most important portions of the concert tour to Michael and when Michael saw the film for the first time at his last rehearsal, there were tears in his eyes." Ehrlich continued, "'There are these incredible images of the beauties of nature, and then they are seen through the eyes of a little girl, and that girl falls asleep and when she wakes up, she is witness to the destruction of nature."

To add to the excitement, the Recording Academy plans to honor Michael Jackson with the lifetime achievement award. This year's Grammys will focus on Michael Jackson and all he has contributed to music and the world. It will be an unprecedented posthumous honor.
CBS has partnered with Target to provide all home viewers 3-D glasses so everyone can partake in this monumentous event. From January 24-31, 2010, everyone can obtain free 3-D "Grammy" glasses at their local Target store. These glasses will be the same as the ones worn by viewers watching the Grammys live at Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA. Without the 3-D glasses, viewers can still experience Earth Song, minus the 3-D effects.
