Michael Jackson: Quincy Jones thinks new 'Michael' album should not be released

The visionary producer, Quincy Jones who is responsible for some of the greatest music of all time, including three of Michael Jackson's best known albums (Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad), is speaking out and sharing his thoughts about the upcoming album that is set to be released on December 14. The new album of course is Michael, which is being released by Sony/Epic.

As Us Magazine reports, when asked about the new album, Jones explained: "I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. Somebody called me up and asked me if it was Michael, and I said it sounds like Michael. But it's backed up by so many voices where I can't really dig down deep enough or I haven't really had time to dig deep enough to identify it. But no way it should be coming out. It should have all stayed in the vault." He went on to explain why he feels this way saying: "It seems like everybody is trying to put everything out that they can with him. I don't understand it. It's all to make money. He wouldn't have wanted it to come out this way. They must just be trying to make as much money as they can. I don't know know why else they are doing it."

From the get-go, there have been mixed reactions to the news that a new Michael Jackson album is going to be released. Many such as Will.I.Am and Quincy Jones believe that Jackson would have wanted to put the "finishing touches" on any song himself, while others believe that releasing the album is keeping Michael Jackson's legacy alive.

What do you think about what Quincy Jones has to say about the upcoming album? Do you agree? Will you be supporting the album?

QJ is not responsible for the albums -He was just the producer.
Dangerus, History and INVINCIBLE was as great as the other albums.

  • rob 1 year ago

I agree with annM, Michael was the music, and although I love all of his albums, Invincible and Dangerous are my favorites.

Invincible is the kind of album that just haunts you. No other musician has been able to do that. Don't get me wrong, I loved John Lennon's music, but Michael was able to reach to the core of your being.

    LETS KEEP MICHAEL'S LEGACY ALIVE!

This shouldn't come out this way!!! or at least they should remove the questionable unfinnished tracks!! this won't help MJ's legacy, it will only ruin it since they're paying no regards to quality, Michael was a perfectionist and he would've never approved songs with adds from other songs he always bet on creativity, but the song Keep your head up has a part of Earth song at the end and Breaking news is like 5 % MJ and the rest, who knows!! They only want money, if they get good sales from this album they would be able to get MJ's catalog = disaster!!
Michael didn't dislike $ony for no reason!!!
If you love MJ don't fall for that!!!

SONY KILLS, SONY IS PHONEY. "I would rather burn my music, before the rest with $ony" Michael Jackson, 2007.

michael's legacy was created by michael in life. this album is no legacy. them, sony, we are selling their fake tears and mediocre work with half-tracks, voices distorted, poorly made videos.
    ______________
el legado de Michael fue creado por Michael en vida. este album no es ningún legado. ellos, sony, nos están vendiendo sus falsas lágrimas y una labor mediocre con temas a medias, voces falseadas, videos mal hechos.

just like Michael said on a tract from blood on the dance floor...its all about the money, what they do, they do it for the money.

Michael knew those words rang true, and its so wrong to buy this because Michael would have wanted this released by his standards and not that of songs still needing touch ups. Remembering Michael is easy, just pray for all the children in need of care, food and love that is where his heart was. you want to do something for Michael??? give to charity what Sony's price is for each sale of the release on Dec 14, 2010 this would have put a huge smile on Michael face indeed. thank you..(always defending Michael forever.)

Michael Jackson left almost 200 unreleased songs to his children so that they could be supported financially. It was all over the news after he died. Every major recording artist has unreleased music come out on albums after their death, (sometimes even when they're still alive) I'm sick of hearing idiots like will.i.am and "fans" saying "oh this shouldn't come out" This is all us true fans have left to look forward to now that he wont be able to make music anymore, so everyone SHUT UP with the nonsense!

The transcript of the Quincy Jones interview is incorrect. Quincy stated in his interview with Roger Friedman that the lead vocals were "STACKED" (not "backed"), this is a term used in the recording studio, which indicates you have layered the voice using several takes. Q says that the vocals are so "STACKED" that he is unable to really tell if the vocals are authentic or not. It's possible Michael laid down a "GUIDE VOCAL" and someone else's voice was stacked on top of it. The forensic analysis is worthless unless they can analyze the voice without the layering effect.

Hello Ultravioletrae! It's great to see you here in these discussions. I've read some of your great, indepth reviews on Amazon.

I would like to know Bruce Swedien's (Michael's former great sound engineer) take on the new CD and whether he thinks those are Michael's vocals. I, for one, have pre-ordered "Michael," because something imperfect is still better than nothing - and I know that the new CD will only be glimpses of Michael's genius. As a fan, it's really hard to let this guy go - so we hunger for more of him, even for the unfinished work. BTW, Michael's manager, Frank Dileo, thinks that the vocals are authentic on the new CD.

Why all those people want make money of Michael's name!!! Go and get a job like other people let MJ rest already you scams. I don't think Michael would of want Sony to released because they screwed him over before and most likely killed as well FOR MONEY!!!!

I totally agree with JasonL L. I already Preordered Michael as much as I do have mixed feelings of the release of Michael, but as Jason L said, "I too am hungry for more Michael music." Sorry, I'll take it finished or unfinished. Quincy Jones I agree with too. Sorry, but I love Michael and will always want more of him yet I don't agree with capitalizing off Michael either. DO I SOUND CONFUSED ENOUGH! WELL, THAT'S BECAUSE I AM!

Ann is clueless. Quincy's more than just producer of MJ's biggest albums from Off the Wall-Bad. He'd known MJ from the time he was 12 yrs old and worked thousands of hours with him in-studio. Quincy knows, just as I,a fan of more than 30 yrs, that MJ was a perfectionist, and he'd never approve of an album with questionable songs. Above all else,MJ stated himself,in 2002,that he was done with Sony after that 2004 boxed set completed his contract. Sony disrespected MJ thru the Invincible project,he spoke out against racism in the industry, and wanted desperately to get his master recordings returned to him by 2005. This is all on record-even youtube. MJ's plan was to direct films after the London shows -not have unauthorized albums released. MJ approved 3 projects-his Opus book,Cirque shows and video game. May the Sony execs burn in hell, along with MJ's murderers.

The songs should stay in the vault for a while, 'till Michael's Sony enemies are out of the picture and better times come.
Michael wasn't completely killed for his money and music catalogue, he was killed for what he stood for, for what he represented. The positivity.
Michael and the American music industry where going the opposite direction. He stood in their wicked path. So they decided to eliminate him.
