It was March 3rd of 2009 when Michael Jackson at a press conference announced his 2009 concert tour schedule: July 8, thru February, 24 2010. With dates from October thru January to be included on top of the 50 dates already set. Michael Jackson's This Is It, immediately went into rehearsal at L.A's Staple Center. Then was canceled due to his untimely death in his home on June 25th, 2009.
Today, Michael Jackson's family "not happy" with wrongful death verdict in court. Michael's mother Katherine Jackson. and her attorney's had alleged on Wednesday, in front of a six-man, six woman jury, that concert promoter AEG Live contributed to her son's 2009 death. By negligently hiring Dr. Conrad Murray to be responsible for Michael's medical care without properly doing necessary workup. And missing obvious signs that her 50-year-old son's health was getting worse, but jury decided in favor or AEG Live.
The "This Is It" booking at London's O2 arena being put on by AEG, the family's legal camp had argued, was poised to earn upward of $1 billion from the planned 50 plus concert date. Including, the last film Jackson starred in, "This Is It" the 2009 concert film that documented Michael Jackson's preparation's for his show. A deal between Jackson's estate, and concert promoter AEG Live, and Sony Pictures, was allowed by a judge. Allowing Sony create the film, who paid $50 million for the film rights. Which was scheduled to start on July 13 2009, the highest grossing concert movie in the history of film.
Although, AEG Live did hire and benefitted from insurance that protected them from financial losses in case something like this were to happen. Even though the former Dr. Murray, lost his medical license, and convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 2011 for administering the dose of the anesthetic propanol that eventually ended Michael Jackson's life. The jury of peers decided that the doctor was incompetent to perform medical procedures necessary of him, to save Michael Jackson's life.
Murray is scheduled to be released from prison on Oct. 28, more concerned about himself than the "Late The King of Pop'. Calmly telling "Today Show's" Matt Lauer live this morning . that when he get's out of jail, he'll finally hold his children and happily reunite with his family and friends. And get his life restarted, and succeed, because bad things happen to good people. Murray was unclear in what profession, since he's no longer a licensed M.D.
In court, Katherine was present for the reading of the verdict, where basking over their great victory. AEG Lives CEO Randy Phillips, who was personally sued by the Jacksons said "We lost one of the world's greatest musical geniuses, but I am relieved and deeply grateful that the jury recognized that neither I, nor anyone else at AEG Live, played any part in Michael's tragic death."
