It appears that Michael Irvin’s wife is the cog to an on-going controversy between Cris Carter and Irvin himself, as news spreads on Friday afternoon. And strangely, fans likely wouldn't have known this information if it wasn’t for Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon.
For those a little lost right now, let’s back up. First, Gordon—the talented offensive playmaker of the Cleveland Browns is facing a year long suspension because he allegedly failed to appear at a drug test.
Since that time, he has been arrested for DWI.
Afterward, Cris Carter came out and chided Gordon, claiming that it’s time for Cleveland to cut the embattled wide receiver. And then, well, things got interesting.
It wasn’t long after when Irvin made an appearance on the Dan Le Batard show and said the following about Cris Carter:
"For Josh, maybe it's the worst thing, and I'm going to put a little personal [spin] on this even though I love Cris to death," Irvin said. I don't know what year it was we were in the Pro Bowl. And all Cris is trying to do, he's just trying to share his experiences.
"He said to my wife — he said to my wife, 'You know, Michael would never come out of this problem until you leave him. Till you leave him.'
"For years, I've held it. I've never shared that with anybody. I've never in my life shared that with anybody. I was so irked with Cris because he was out of line then. His a** is out of line now. He is out. Of. Line."
Michael Irvin dealt with drug problems throughout his career on the Dallas Cowboys. And Cris Carter himself is no angel, as he offers advice for Gordon due to his own experiences with off-the-field problems. Carter has often recalled the tale of changing his life after being cut by the Philadelphia Eagles.
