Michael Fortunato, who appeared on "Catfish" season 2 in the episode titled "Ashley and Mike" had died, Wet Paint reported on Oct. 15. The 26-year-old passed away from a pulmonary embolism, which is a blockage in the arteries of a lung.
MTV, the network that airs the show, reported that he passed away on Oct. 12 in Hartford, Conn. His girlfriend, Ashley Sawyer, which is the same girl who appeared on the episode with Mike, said that they were "very much in love" and that they were planning on going to her hometown of Atlanta to celebrate New Year's Eve. She was going to meet his sister, Gena, for the very first time.
Ashley said that Mike Fortunato was "the most honest, loyal person I'd ever met in my life" and that if there were more people like him, everyone would be happier in the world. She also said,
"He would give anybody the last shirt he had — anything."
"He would put his life on hold just to make sure other people moved forward. He always put people first."
Gena told MTV,
"He was a little kid at heart — a gentle giant. The biggest heart that you'd ever meet."
Condolences go out to Mike Fortunato's family and friends during this difficult time.
