Longtime proponent of homeschool rights Michael P. Farris will be speaking at a Parental Rights Seminar Thursday, February 25, 2010. Farris, founder of Homeschool Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) and legal advocate will present on federal, state and local laws that affect parental rights in our country.
The author of more than a dozen books, Farris is also host to a daily radio talk show aired across the country. Home School Heartbeat is just one of the ways that Farris reaches out to homeschooling families nationwide.
The event will take place at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Downtown location, 720 13th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55415. Contact Betty Dodge for more information at family@hopeinGod.org.
Homeschool families wanting more information or seeking legal counsel can become members of HSLDA. This organization is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the legal rights of homeschool families. There is a fee to join this group, but many consider it to be well worth the fee.
Some of the services covered by HSLDA include legal counsel, email alerts for legislative issues affecting homeschoolers, and resource materials for homeschooling families. HSLDA does more than offer legal assistance. Affiliates working with HSLDA often present at homeschool conferences, providing information on graduation standards, transcripts, and other topics relevant to homeschoolers.
An online curriculum market and bi-monthly news magazine are also a part of the membership with HSLDA. Farris began this organization in 1983 and it has since grown to serve more than 80,000 families in various ways: the speaking engagement at the Parental Rights Seminar is just one example of an effort to protect the legal rights of homeschooling Americans.
