Actor Michael Douglas' son, Cameron, got sentenced to five years in prison on Tuesday at the New York City courthouse.

Cameron had pleaded guilty to drug charges in January and was facing as much as a minimum of 10 years in jail. However, the judge gave the much lesser sentence of five years because Cameron cooperated with the authorities. At least that's what's on record.

It seems, however, that Cameron's famous family may have had something to do with his short sentence; if not for their celebrity status, then at least it was due to the letters his dad, grandfather and step-mom wrote to the judge.

Apparently, Michael, Cameron's grandfather Kirk Douglas and step-mom Catherine Zeta-Jones, each hand-wrote personal notes to the judge asking him to be lenient with Cameron.

In a statement to the court Cameron apologized to his family and the court for his actions. "I want to be a productive family member and role model for others to get advice, guidance and support and steer them in the right direction." He added.

After handing out the sentence, the judge said he hoped Cameron could stay off drugs, although he was not confident he could. "In my estimation, that will be a very difficult chore. I think this case and this sentencing may well be his last chance to make it." He concluded.

He got lucky for being born wit ha famous dad and step-mom. Anyone else would have had at least 10 years in prison.

He got preference, that's wrong when most would have got the expected 'so called' Mandatory minimum! So what about 3 Strike Law,another Mandatory Minimum that is not always applied unless you are too poor to fight it properly.
