Michael Douglas mistake: Actor admits he took wife for granted

Michael Douglas has admitted the mistake he made with his famous wife. The actor has been married to Catherine Zeta-Jones. The actor has now opened up about the problems in their marriage and the reasons for their split last year. Digital Spy shared the comments made by the actor about their relationship in a new interview on June 15.

Michael Douglas and Catherine-Zeta Jones have been married for 14 years, and they split briefly in 2013, but neither talked about the reasons for the split. Michael does appear to be taking the blame for the separation though. The couple reunited earlier this year, and this surely made their children happy. Douglas and Zeta-Jones have two children between them. Dylan is 13, and Carys is 11. Douglas has another son from a previous marriage.

Douglas appeared on the Sunday morning broadcast of "The Sun on Sunday" on UK television over the weekend, and this where he was open and frank about his life, his sex life, and the problems he had in his marriage with Zeta-Jones. He admitted to making mistakes in the relationship, and he is definitely working to correct them.

It is clear that he has made some progress on that front because he and his wife are now back together, and he admitted that his sex life at the moment "is great." As for the relationship, he said the following about their split during the interview: "When you are younger you care what other people think. And you take the person closest to you for granted. You waste a lot of energy on strangers to make a good impression. When you're older you focus that energy on the people closest to you, on your family. And you're courteous."

Douglas has not had it easy in recent years. He is a throat cancer survivor. The split by the couple happened after he was on the mend from that illness last year. Catherine Zeta-Jones has dealt with her own medical issues. She has been treated for a form of bi-polar disorder. Right now, the couple is back together, and it appears they are happy.

Fans started to wonder if the couple had reunited after they started appearing together in public once again. They had taken to appearing solo at red carpet events during the time of their split. The couple recently appeared at the 42nd Annual AFI Life Achievement Award Gala honoring Jane Fonda. The event was held in Los Angeles last week.

As for Douglas' career, cancer has not stopped the 69-year-old actor from working. According to IMDB, he has a role in upcoming Marvel film "Ant-Man." He will play Hank Pym in that film, and it is set for release in 2015. This year, fans of the actor will be able to see him in "The Reach" and "And So It Goes."

Douglas does not seem ready to stop. His father kept going as he became older too. What do you think? Are you surprised by Douglas opening up and speaking out about his marriage problems with Catherine Zeta-Jones. Share your thoughts below.
