Michael Douglas.....Good Actors Never Die!

Michael Douglas, The 66-year-old actor is set to begin shooting Steven Soderbergh's "Liberace" in May or June, with Douglas playing the title part. He's also nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance in "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps."  And, oh,   did we forget to mention, Michael Douglas says his tumor is gone and that he may have beaten throat cancer.

In his first television interview since undergoing treatment for throat cancer, Michael Douglas tells TODAY's Matt Lauer that his tumor is gone and he's got his cancer beat.

"The odds are, with the tumor gone and what I know about this particular type of cancer, that I've got it beat," Douglas said during an interview that will air Tuesday on TODAY. Douglas said that he still has to undergo monthly checks to be sure the cancer is gone, but he's already quantifying how having the disease has changed him.

"It's put a timeline on my life," Douglas said. "I'm 66 now. You know, I'm fortunate I've got a mother who's 88. She'll kill me. She may be 87. My father's 94. So, you know, I feel good about those genes. But it's definitely a third act. And so you're a little more conscious of your time in how you choose to spend it."  The tumor is gone. But, you know, I have to check out on a monthly basis now to maintain. I guess there's not a total euphoria. I'll probably take a couple of months of getting checked out. But it's been a wild six-month ride," Douglas said in a transcript of the interview released by the NBC network.

A portion of the segment will air on Tuesday, and the full interview will air on "Dateline NBC" on January 23.

Lauer asked Douglas about putting on weight after radiation treatments, and Douglas said he had been "eating like a pig." He is working out in a gym and even planning for an upcoming film role as famed pianist Liberace, he said.

"I think the odds are, with the tumor gone and what I know about this particular type of cancer, that I've got it beat," Douglas told Lauer.

Douglas, 66, made a surprise announcement in August that doctors had diagnosed him with stage IV throat cancer but he was optimistic he would recover. Given the late stage of the tumor, however, many fans were concerned.

Douglas is one of Hollywood's brightest stars, having worked in movies from "The China Syndrome" to "Fatal Attraction," "The American President" and "Wall Street," which earned him an Oscar for his role as money manipulator Gordon Gekko.

He also won an Oscar for producing "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and in the 1970's starred in TV crime show "The Streets of San Francisco." He is the son of veteran actor Kirk Douglas and is married to Catherine Zeta-Jones, with whom he has two children.      Great my mom  wasn't so blessed to have a second chance and she didn't even smoke. Luckily, Michael  isn't smoking now either that is great. God Bless.     I am glad that he is recooperating very well, I wish him nothing but the best. He is a great actor and I admire all his work.     I for one am so very very happy that Michael is  recovering and the news is good. His positive attitude is to be applauded and I know we will all pray that Mr.D  will continue to be C free. God bless Michael and can't wait to see him in his  next project.
