Shocking news for celebrity followers in Fresno today, as reported by such news sources as PEOPLE Magazine, Hollywood power couple Michael Douglas, age 68, and Catherine Zeta-Jones, age 43, have announced they are now separating, or, as one source has said, "They're taking a break."
Aol.Com elaborates that a source who spoke to PEOPLE claims that the stress from Douglas' cancer battle and Zeta-Jones' struggle with bipolar disorder have taken a toll on the marriage. PEOPLE also reports that Douglas and Zeta-Jones have not been photographed together since April 22. the couple reportedly decided to spend time apart soon after Douglas came back from the Cannes Film Festival in May. Furthermore, Zeta-Jones had recently returned from a scheduled second round of treatment to monitor her bipolar disorder.
Since their marriage in November 2000, the couple has had two children, Dylan, age 13, and Carys, age 10, and according to PEOPLE, the two hope to work out their differences to keep the family together.
Friends and family of the couple hope the two are ultimately able to work out their differences. As one family friend told PEOPLE: "They want the best for their kids, no matter what happens."
