Michael Cavanaugh to perform Billy Joel songbook with Orlando Phil

Saturday, January 28, the Orlando Philharmonic will present “The Music of Billy Joel & More,” a tribute to Billy Joel in an evening of great American rock n’ roll hits. Featuring the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, pianist/vocalist Michael Cavanaugh and conductor Dirk Meyer, the performances will be held at 2pm and 8pm at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre.

Billboard magazine has hailed Cavanaugh as “The New Voice of the American Rock and Roll Songbook.”  Cavanaugh was handpicked by Billy Joel to provide piano and lead vocals in the Broadway Musical Movin’ Out, where he performed in the show for three years and over 1200 performances, receiving accolade after accolade, including  Grammy and Tony award nominations in 2003. Since the closing of Movin’ Out at the end of 2005, Michael has toured the world. In 2008, he signed with Warner/ADA to distribute his first CD titled In Color.

Joined by his five-piece band and the Orlando Philharmonic on January 28, Cavanaugh will perform great Billy Joel favorites like “She’s Got a Way,” “New York State of Mind,” and “Just the Way You Are,” plus rock & roll hits like “Pinball Wizard,” “Uptown Girl” and “Crocodile Rock.”
