Many were stunned and shocked last fall when 15 year-old Michael Brewer fell victim to a group of bullies that allegedly doused him in alcohol and set him on fire. This story has compelled many to take a closer look at school violence as well as how bullying can not only physically hurt others, it can also emotionally scar them for years.
Since this tragic incident, Michael Brewer has been slowly recovering, working diligently with physical therapy and recently reaching out to thank his many supporters. There have been many fundraisers on behalf of the Brewer family.
On Wednesday, Mikey surprised a group of seniors at Independence Hall Retirement Community as they had a bake sale to raise money for Mikey Brewer. Along with his parents, Mikey expressed his gratitude and thrilled the Wilton Manor residents by his presence.
"I just wanted to say hi and thank you for all your prayers and meet some people who were doing all this stuff for me," Brewer said. "I think it's wonderful." - NBC Miami.
Michael Brewer has fought hard to survive and is an example of perseverance in what was an extremely horrific situation.
The teens accused of this malicious attack are currently facing attempted murder charges.
