South Florida offers a community like no other. Michael Brewer, the 15 year-old boy that was doused with rubbing alcohol and set on fire by other teens, is making tremendous progress in his recovery. His determination and strength is to be admired.
This year the Cove Marina Sailfish Tournament is donating all proceeds to Michael Brewer and his family.
According to the Sun-Sentinel: The contest is Jan. 15-16, with boats fishing out of Boca Raton or Hillsboro inlets. The team catching and releasing the most sailfish wins $10,000, plus there are divisions for kingfish, wahoo and dolphin. Boats that enter by Jan. 4 must pay an entry fee of $1,000.
The kickoff party is 6-10 p.m. Jan. 13 at the Cove Restaurant in Deerfield Beach. For a tournament brochure or to register, visit bluewatermovements.com. For sponsorship information or to donate an item for the tournament's silent auction, call Bluewater Movements at 954-725-4010.
Michael Brewer came home for Christmas, however has many months of therapy and recovery ahead of him.
The outpouring of support from South Florida has been remarkable. From a lemonade stand to over 8000 supporters on the social networking site of Facebook, Michael Brewer and his family are in the thoughts and prayers of thousands, if not millions, of people from all over.
