Michael Bolton, the crooner with the velvet voice and big blue eyes brings his show to Harrah's Resort and Casino this Friday, January 27, 2012 at 9pm. Currently in the midst of a 115-city world tour, the Grammay Award-winning singer/songwriter is sure to delight fans with Dock of the Bay, Time, Love and Tenderness, How Am I Supposed to Live Without You, How Can We Be Lovers, To Love Somebody and this Examiner's personal favorite, featured in the sidebar video, Soul Provider.
Michael Bolton began his career in1975 with the self-titled album Bolotin, which happens to be his actual last name. He formed the band Blackjack shortly thereafter and once backed up rocker Ozzie Osbourne.
While performing with Blackjack, he was busy as a songwriter, penning songs for many other artists, including his first major writing hit, How Can I Live Without You, originally written for Laura Branigan of Gloria fame. Michael later had his own hit with the same song.
He changed his style dramatically in the late 80s/early 90s to what everyone now associates with Michael Bolton, very smooth "blue-eyed soul." This and his still stunning good looks is what draws legions of fans to every show. Just this year, People Magazine awarded him the title of "Sexiest Man in his 50s!"
In a 2011 conversation with Funcoast, Michael spoke about a collaboration with Lady Gaga.
Looking back to your 2009 album “One World One Love,” you wrote the song “Murder My Heart” with a then up-and-coming Lady Gaga. How did the collaboration come about?
MB: Wow, Lady Gaga. A songwriter before her solo career took off. I think she was 23 when we wrote together. Her CD was about to come out in about three months. The label was very excited about it. We were both on the same company, Universal. And I got a phone call from one of the record executives who said we have this great artist who is also a great songwriter who is a big fan of yours and would like to write with you for this new CD. And I said, “Really? Okay. Who is it?” And they said her name is Lady Gaga. And, you know, I hadn’t heard of her yet because her record didn’t come out yet and there wasn’t a buzz that was soon to explode into, you know, the enormity of Gaga, Gaga mania. I am very, very happy for her.
