When Winter Music Conference 2014 rolled around Miami's corner, the city's indie hip hop scene jumped on the opportunity to showcase its ringleaders in music and entertainment. Typically, WMC is reserved for the leaders in EDM, but WAKEUPSTAR, along with S. Renee Media and All Like Minds, presented the Miami Got Next Industry Panel this past Thursday, and Underground Report II, a live indie showcase, this past Friday, stealing some of the spotlight from the annual events’ usual suspects. Both were top notch engagements, stirring up discussion and the transference of experiences in Miami’s emcee circles.

Thursday night’s panel, Sound Check, encouraged attendees to use their talents as a platform for entrepreneurial achievement in the entertainment industry. Aptly held in Wynwood at Scratch DJ Academy, panelists DJ Bre (Empire/Hi-Grade Records), Honey’s Money (Maybach Music Group), Lee Castro (Miami New Times), Jedi Nemesis (Escape Control) & Vince Valholla (Valholla Entertainment), each gave stand-up testimony of their experiences in the indie market, and did an overall great job of inspiring the crowd and motivating their individual journeys.

Friday evening saw the cities’ best indie emcees come together in celebration of music at Underground Report II, held at Majestical Lips in Little Haiti. The outdoor, island-inspired venue was an ideal compliment to the night’s perfect weather, dope performances, and general lively atmosphere. Live appearances by J. Nics, Xali, Flight School Preps, MORGAN, NikSB, Twizem, Vurn, The Nobodies, Starlife, Rapper Rich and songstress Amber Monique left the Magical City’s indie scene reminded of the star power that’s twinkling just below the clouds. Hosted by Miami/DC resident host & emcee Stef is DOPE, and sounds by the Pyrvmids, rounded out an overall pleasurable experience.

Two nights, two awesome events that did a great job of showcasing the cities’ indie hip hop talent. For more events, follow @Wakeupstar on Twitter.
