According to a MH March 12, 2014 basketball report, Miami (Fla.) and Virginia Tech will take the hardwood following the conclusion of the 2014 ACC Conference Tournament (live stream) opener between Notre Dame and Wake Forest around 3:40 p.m. ET (2:40 p.m. CT/1:40 p.m. MT/12:40 p.m. PT) on ESPN2 and ESPN3 (free game online).

The (16-15, ACC: 7-11) Miami Hurricanes come in ranked 10th in the ACC Tournament 2014, while the (9-21, ACC: 2-16) Virginia Tech Hokies sit at the cellar of conference play occupying the 15th spot.

Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C., will be the site for the conference’s regular season championship, which will also determine which teams earn an invite into the NCAA Men’s basketball Tournament later this month.

As Michelle Kauffman details, it was just a year ago that the Canes captured the attention of the nation, going into the conference tourney as the team to beat and delivering with the program’s first ACC title.

However, back-to-back NCAA Tournament and/or NIT appearances will prove to be a tall task for UM’s men’s basketball squad. With no room for error, the Canes must defeat Virginia Tech and N.C. State on their way to consecutive ACC titles just to get themselves in the conversation for a 2014 postseason berth.

“We’re not in the running for the NIT because of the criteria of the NIT,” said Miami head coach Jim Larranaga, referring to the recent rule change for NIT qualifications. “It has nothing to do with your record now, it’s your RPI (Ratings Percentage Index). Our RPI is not good enough (below 100).”

So, what are the chances that the Hurricanes clear the first hurdle in today’s free live streaming game against Virginia Tech?
