Miami Symphony Orchestra presented a Concert at Collins Park in Miami Beach (Photos)

The Miami Symphony Orchestra (MISO) presented the world premieres of new specially written compositions for its “Ocean Drive in Vienna” program on January 27, 2013 at Collins Park in Miami Beach.

This al fresco concert added a twist to MISO’s most popular annual production of Viennese waltzes, polkas, and overtures by Johann Strauss, Jr. among others. This new concept of the previously titled “An Evening in Vienna” concert incorporated original music specifically written using famous Viennese melodies as their main material or famous Latin melodies treated in a Viennese waltz fashion, thanks to a three-year grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation in support of MISO’s Composers-in-Residence program.

"We are delighted to partner with the City of Miami Beach Arts in the Park and Miami Symphony Orchestra to present this exciting al fresco concert in Collins Park," says Silvia Karman Cubiñá, Executive Director Bass Museum of Art. “This event expands on the Bass Museum's leadership role in bringing art, music and people together."

“Part of our role as Miami’s hometown orchestra is to create original works that uniquely reflect our community,” says Eduardo Marturet, MISO’s Music Director and Conductor. “We appreciate the recognition of the good work of our Composers-in-Residence program, as all three composers have a deep, personal connection to the musical voice and cultural vibrancy of South Florida.”
