Microsoft will be opening a new store at the Aventura Mall this week and to celebrate they are giving away tickets to the first 1,300 people who attend the store's grand opening. In addition to the concert, four local non-profits will receive more than $1 million in software grants. The store opening makes it the fifth full retail Microsoft store in Florida and the 93rd in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.
Grammy award-winning artists Macklemore and Ryan Lewis will perform on Saturday, May 31st at the Surface parking lot in Aventura Mall. The special performance is limited to the 1,300 tickets being given away during the grand opening on Thursday, May 29th and guests are being advised to arrive early. The ceremony begins at 10:30 am.
Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Latin America Hernán Rincón will present more than $1 million in software grants to the United Way of Miami-Dade, The Arc of South Florida, Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center and the Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida during the ribbon-cutting. The Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida have partnered with Microsoft to provide on internet etiquette and movie maker courses at it's Dadeland location and will hopefully be expanding to Aventura as well.
Microsoft began opening retail stores in 2009 in an attempt to boost sales and provide an off-line sales and educational experience. Stores provide a location for customers to interact with tablets, PCs, and gaming systems as well as attend educational courses on how to use the electronic devices.
