Fernando Caignet Aquilera was charged with the illegal capture of an alligator in Miami as he tried to trade the four-foot reptile for a pack of beer in a Miami convenience store reported Tuesday's NBC

According to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesperson, Jorge Pino, Aquilera told authorities he found the gator at a nearby park and trapped it. On Dec. 10, he took the gator to the Santa Ana Market on 12th Avenue and asked the store attendant to trade the gator for a 12-pack of beer.

"This is absolutely bizarre, I can't imagine somebody wanting to barter a live four-foot alligator for a 12 pack of beer, it makes no sense to me," stated Pino.

The store clerk called authorities.

In Florida, licenses are required to trap alligators. For more information on licensing from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, please click here.

"Alligator management programs implemented by FWC emphasize the conservation of alligator populations for their ecological, aesthetic, and economic values while providing for public use and safety."

The captured gator was reported to be in good health and was released back into the wild.
