Last Thursday, as part of Miami's National Moms Nite Out Celebration, held at Dadeland Mall, this Miami Fashion & Style Examiner participated as a judge in the Style Wars competition.
This competition pitted 3 teams of students from the Miami International University of Art & Design against each other, as each team was given 1 hour and a bag of fabric scraps, from which to create an outfit. This all happens while mall patrons look on and cheer.
Along with this Examiner, the other judges included Marcia Gomez, Communications Director for the school and Janet Velasquez, a Nordstrom stylist. CBS4 news anchor, Shannon Hori, served as emcee for the evening.
Once the clock started, each team's model stripped down to the bare necessities, seemingly oblivious to being in Center Court of a huge mall. The teams set course on creating something fierce out of the hodgepodge of scraps that they were given. While time ran its course, Shannon Hori brought each judge up to talk about themselves and what they were looking for in choosing the competition's winner.
In the end, by split decision, Team One edged out the competition, with a sleek evening dress, fit for a red carpet. Each member of the winning team was given a Simon Mall gift card.
