Miami Dolphins sign running back Jerome Messam, Bush will get less playing time

The Dolphins have made their first major offseason acquisition. The team signed CFL star running back Jerome Messam to a three-year deal.

Messam rushed for 1,057 yards on 195 carries for Edmonton last year. He also caught 27 passes for 248 yards.

Messam's presence threatens the playing time of tailback Reggie Bush, who rushed for more than 1,000 yards for the first time in his career last season.

Bush didn't play in Miami's regular-season finale against the Jets due to a knee injury he suffered in Week 16.

The team never disclosed the severity of the injury. So, the Dolphins may have had his injury in mind when they signed Messam.

Miami running back Daniel Thomas should also be concerned about the signing of Messam.

The 24-year-old missed a considerable amount of games with a recurring hamstring injury he dealt with the majority of last year.

Messam, 26, has also played with the BC Lions.

He attended school at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa.
