During the February 4 Miami Dade County Commission meeting, the Miami-Dade County Commission overturned a veto by Mayor Carlos Gimenez. The means that Miami-County workers won't have to pay five percent of their base pay for group healthcare costs. This means that the Gimenez administration will have to find $42 million to plug a whole in the $4.4 billion county budget. Gimenez was very angry and this will mean layoffs in cuts in services, according to an article by Patricia Mazzei in the February 4 Miami Herald.
"I am glad the commission over turned the veto. County workers should not have to pay so much toward healthcare," said Pam Newland.
