The Roxy Theatre Group will present an original adaption of Charles Dickens’ classic, A Christmas Carol. Roxy Theatre Group (RTG) has collaborated with the local theater company, What If Works and the FIU Alternative Theatre Festival to present this holiday classic. The cast of 28 students, ages 9-22 represents, over 21 different schools and colleges in Miami-Dade County.
Adapted for the stage and directed by Florida International University, (FIU) Theatre Professor, Phillip M. Church, a portion of the proceeds for A Christmas Carol will benefit the FIU Hope for Haiti Task Force, comprised of university leaders who unify the response to the Haiti disaster.
The production features original poems written by ten 5th grade students, as part of a county-wide poetry contest hosted by RTG and recited during each performance by Ulises Otero, Jr., 9, playing Tiny Tim.
A Christmas Carol performance schedule:
December 16,17,19, Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday, 6:30 p.m. Sunday, 3 p.m. & 6 p.m., with the exception of Saturday, Dec. 18; December 20-22, Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday, 10 a.m. & 8 p.m.
Admission: Adults $10 and Children $5. The Thursday, Dec. 16 show is complimentary & open to the public, however, reservations are required.
There will be a cocktail reception and after-show party on Friday, Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for this show are $30. All proceeds benefit the FIU Hope for Haiti Task Force & RTG’s Student Scholarship Fund.
