Teen gives judge the bird and gets 30 days in jail (Video)

Penelope Soto found out what happens when one gives severe disrespect to Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Jorge Rodriguez-Chomat, according the NBC-television news affiliate in Miami, and it isn’t pretty. On Monday morning, Soto of Miami was in court after being arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

The judge initially set the woman’s bond at $5,000 and the teen laughed it off, flippantly told the Hispanic judge “adios” and walked away. After Soto’s rude response, the judge called her back and doubled the bond by setting it at $10,000. At that, she became quite upset, told the judge “f--k, you” and flipped her middle finger (also known as the bird) at him as she walked away again. Soto didn’t get far before the judge called her back again and asked her what she had said. According to WSVN-TV, when asked by the judge if she actually said what she said, she told the judge that she did.

Taking his authority regarding his courtroom a step further, he informed Soto that she was then found in criminal contempt of court due to her disrespect for him. When the judge gave her thirty days in the Miami-Dade County Jail, the woman told the judge: “OK, that’s fine.”

Soto’s problems began when she had a bike accident and told the police that she was drugged on Xanax bars – and, furthermore, told police that she had more in her purse. After the police found 26 of the bars in her purse, she was arrested.
