Miami Artist Pleads Not Guilty in Vase Smashing

On March 17, 2014, Maximo Caminero, 51 entered a not guilty plea. In February, Mr. Caminero was charged with criminal mischief for smashing a vase valued at $1 million. The vase is part of an installation by Chinese artist Ai Weiwei. Mr.Weiwei is active in sculpture, installation, architecture, curating, photography, film, and social, political and cultural criticism. The vase was exhibited at the Perez Art Museum Miami and it is titled "Colored Vases". Mr. Caminero told police it was to protest the lack of support for local artist.
