Mia: Darling girl almost left at the shelter, rescued at the last minute

Mia's stats
Age: 2 years
Color: Black & tan
Coat: Smooth
Sex: Female/spayed
Size: Mini - 10 lbs.

While waiting on line to pay for a rescue dog at a Los Angeles County shelter, our volunteer noticed a lady approaching the counter to surrender her dachshund into the shelter.

They struck up a conversation, and when our volunteer learned the dog's fate, she asked the lady if she would turn Mia over to us rather than leave her at the shelter. The lady readily agreed.

She'd found Mia as stray about two months prior. She advertised in newspapers, put up signs and distributed flyers to local vetrtinsty officess, but no one stepped up to claim Mia.

After two months, the lady could not afford to continue to care for Mia and her two other dogs, so she reluctantly took her to the shelter. The rest is history.

Mia loves people and is very loving and affectionate. The consummate lap dog, she lives to cuddle and will do just about anything for a belly rub. Mia wants to sleep in the big bed under the covers, but will sleep in her crate if required to.

Mia is crate trained and housetrained, and she knows how to use the doggie door. She loves playing with toys, gets along well with other dogs and likes children over five years old. We don't know if she's good for cats.

Applicants must have a very secure home and yard. Mia does not like to be left alone for long periods of time. Folks who work from home would be ideal for her.

Mia is young, healthy, current on vaccines, and now microchipped. Her teeth are bright white as a puppy's should be. We think Mia is something special, and we can't wait to find her a home with people who agree.
