This year, relocated to Miami's premiere Downtown Art & Entertainment District, Miami International Art Fair, MIA 2012 will bring this week an exceptional presentation by international exhibitors of renowned modern masters, cutting-edge and emerging talents inside SeaFair, a 228-foot megayacht which will be docked at 100 Chopin Plaza at the Intercontinental Hotel.
The 3rd edition of MIA presents 28 international galleries, the majority from Miami, hence the name MIA, which represent over 100 artists. Additionally, MIA will premiere Sculpture Miami, a waterside installation at Bayfront Park. Over thirty large scale sculptures by major international sculptors will be on public display until March 12th, 2012.
Some of the gallery highlights announced are from Miami-based Ascaso Gallery which specializes in Venezuelan blue-chip art will showcase striking works by renowned Op Art-Kinetic masters Jesus Soto and Carlos Cruz Diez. The gallery will also bring works by Venezuelan Sculptor James Mathison.
Black Square Gallery (Miami) will bring works from both young and accomplished artists from around the world such as Emilio Garcia, Pablo Lehmann, Victor Sydorenko, Taisha 3,14, Zhanna Kadyrova, Anibal Vallejo, Jorge Chirinos Sanchez and Taro Hattori.
Butter Gallery (Miami) will present a solo exhibition of works by master mason Phil Stapleton whose Stapleton ordinary found objects are transformed into functional innovative designs creating a unique breed of sculptures which the artist incorporates into a storyline of Jack Wolf, the artist’s imaginary character that rides his works to an alternate reality.
Cernuda Arte (Miami) a gallery in Coral Gables that specializes in Colonial, Early Republic, Vanguardia, and Modern masters Cuban paintings will exhibit works by Wifredo Lam, Agustin Cardenas, Mario Carreno and René Portocarrero among others.
Evan Lurie Gallery (Carmel) will feature works by Italian sculptor Oriano Galloni, whose stunning figures in marble, wood, and aluminum range in height from 6 to 30 feet. The gallery will also features new works by sculptors Brad Howe, Carlo Borer, Kevin Barrett, and Gino Miles, as well as two-dimensional pieces by Jorge Santos, Victor Wang, Alexi Torres, and Jason Paul Bennett.
Another Venezuelan gallery, Galeria Medicci (Caracas) will present moving works from Luis Alberto Hernandez who recently participated in the IV International Biennial Artist Books in Alexandria, Egypt which led to a distinguished invitation to exhibit at the Musée du Hiéron Eucharistique, the Museum of Sacred Art in Ville de Paray Le Monial, France. The gallery will also showcase works by Mendive, one of the leading representatives of Cuban and Latin American art whose works are surrounded and permeated with Santeria religion.
Nina Torres Fine Art (Miami), the first waterfront gallery that inaugurated in the Miami Arts & Entertainment District during Art Basel Week, will be exhibiting a provocative and charged international band of artists that includes Dubai-based photographer Dunia Gatica, Greek artist Melanie Prapopoulos, Mexican Ivonne Gil Lamadrid, Colombian, Rodolfo Sanchez and celebrity portrait artist Peter Engels from Belgium.

Fair hours are January 13-14, noon to 10 PM on January 15-16, noon to 7 PM.
