To no one’s surprise, Tex-mex restaurants in Texas show up a little like the chinch bug does during our summers: out of the blue and everywhere. Not to say they are bad, but they all offer the same Velveeta cheese based enchiladas and ground beef. Excellent when served with a side of heartburn medication.
It’s unusual to find a place that is a little bit different, a place where you could take someone on a really nice first date or even an anniversary meal. Unusual, but not impossible.
Nestled in the heart of The Woodlands’ Mall is Mi Cocina, an upsacale Tex-mex restaurant that offers something unique: they offer what no one else has. Their food can be characterized with two key ingredients.
The first is freshness. Mi Cocina cooks all food from scratch and fresh ingredients. There are no microwaves or freezers. Tamales are made from scratch by slicing the corn kernels off the cob and creating their very own masa. Guacamole is made three times a day to keep it fresh and their 23 ingredient mole is made as needed.
The second is simplicity. Mi Cocina’s margaritas are made with fresh fruit purees, no artificial flavoring. That explains why they aren’t too sweet, nor too tart. The restaurant’s deco is casual, but upscale; Mexican, but contemporary.
These two ingredients combine to create something that goes beyond upscale Tex-mex food and into the realm of Mexican fusion. A combination that no matter where you are from; if you love food, you will love their menu.
Mi Cocina’s menu offers everything from classical Tex-mex dishes, such as queso and enchiladas, to new takes on Mexican classics, shrimp ceviche with mango and jicama. When freshness meets unique and simple meets classic, dinner meets inspiration.
