Mexico president Felipe Calderón is scheduled to come to Phoenix at the beginning of January to talk with Latino civil rights groups Chicanos Unidos Arizona, Take Back Aztlán, and Nuestros Reconquistos. The main topic of discussion will be about civil rights for undocumented Mexican migrants.
“Felipe Calderón is concerned that undocumented migrants are being discriminated against in unemployment. He wants to make sure that migrants can be hired for jobs such as teachers, lawyers, and engineers—given that they are qualified,” says Chicanos Unidos Arizona President Cecilia Maldonado.
Other topics of discussion will be the Occupy Aztlán movement and education for migrants from Mexico. After visiting Phoenix, Calderón is scheduled to visit Los Angeles, Chicago, and Dallas.
