Thursday, California officials announced that the damages from the massive US-Mexico earthquake last Sunday will cost more than $100 million just in California. Damages in Mexico have yet to be officially estimated, but some reports say it may cost more than $300 million.

Damages in Imperial County, California have yet to be officially estimated, but will include damage to homes, schools, the water treatment system, and many businesses in the area.

Chula Vista, California reported severe damage done to more than 800 homes, and damage to the area may be at least $100 million, according to US Rep. Bob Filner, D-Chula Vista.

El Centro and Calexico had extensive damage to water and sewage systems, schools and a large hospital in the Calexico area. The estimated damage in Imperial County is about $35 million. Days after the massive earthquake hit Mexico, California residents are still finding damage on a daily basis.

Several thousand aftershocks have hit Mexicali since the massive 7.2 earthquake Sunday night, and most have been in the 2.2 to 3.9-magnitude range.

Thursday morning, several earthquakes hit Mexicali including one with a 5.5-magnitude quake that was felt as far north as San Diego, and a 4.5 magnitude earthquake an hour earlier. The 5.5-magnitude quake hit 30 miles south-southeast of Mexicali, and a 4.5 magnitude aftershock hit 18 miles west-southwest of Mexicali an hour before that.

Kathy Gonzalez, who lives in San Diego is visiting friends in Salt Lake City for the holiday weekend. Sunday, Kathy watched a CNN report about the earthquake and was worried about her family in San Diego. “It has been such a long time since we’ve had a major earthquake in San Diego.
