Mexico celebrating  Benito Juarez Day today, a national holiday in Mexico

Downtown Guadalajara is normally jammed with people on Monday mornings but today downtown is relatively quiet.   Most services for tourists are open as normal so it is likely that tourists may barely notice the difference.   However, if you plan to go to the bank today, you will have to use the ATM or return on Tuesday, March 22.

The holiday marks the birthday of Benito Juarez, a former Mexican president who is regarded as a hero in the country.   Juarez was elected president in 1861.  He was elected again in 1871 but died a year later of a heart attack.
