An monster truck went out of control Saturday at a Mexican extreme show, flying into the crowd of spectators, killing a least eight people and injuring 80 others. A child was reported among the eight dead, and 46 people are reported still hospitalized as of Sunday morning, according to the Boston Herald on Oct. 6.

The horrific accident took place in Chihuahua, where spectators say it appeared as though the driver of the monster truck lost control after leaping over a pile of cars. Several witnesses say they saw the driver hit his head on the truck interior, and two say they saw his helmet fly off.

The driver was crushing a pile of cars at the "Extreme Aeroshow", said Carlos Gonzalez, spokesman for the Chihuahua state prosecutors' office.

After the driver appeared to have struck his head as the massive monster truck went airborne, it flew into the crowd mowing down spectators.

Gonzalez said the number of dead and injured may rise as officials receive updated information Sunday morning. The local health system called for blood donations on its Facebook page.

The accident occurred on the second day of the three-day show, held in a park on the outskirts of Chihuahua, capital of the Chihuahua state. The show's final day has been canceled.
