Mexican Fiesta is a celebration of Hispanic culture being held this weekend at the Henry Maier Festival Park (Summerfest Grounds), on the lakefront in Milwaukee, Wisc. The fest opened on Fri., Aug. 23, 2013 and runs through Sun., Aug. 25.. Milwaukee is about 90 miles north of Chicago, Ill. and makes a pleasant daytrip.
This is the 40th anniversary of Mexican Fiesta, which was first presented in 1973. The fest is presented by the Wisconsin Hispanic Scholarship Foundation, Inc. (WHSF).
Mexican Fiesta encourages individuals from all ethnic backgrounds to share the beauty of Latin Countries' history, art, music, and food.
The fest offers family friendly entertainment, including Soccer tournaments, contests, Midway Rides, Children's Area & Stage, Rock en Español Stage, Commercial Expo, Community & Health Fair Pavilion, Hotwheelz 2013 - car & motorcycle show, art gallery, science expo, genealogy exhibit and much more
The fest features Mexican arts and crafts from more than 100 artisans from Mexico. The past and present come alive through the crafts, folkloric dances and music.
Enjoy folkloric dancing and music on several stages throughout the grounds. Mexican Fiesta will feature traditional music as Banda, Ranchero, Norteño, Salsa, Bachata, Cumbia, Pop & Rock en Español and much more,
Mexican Fiesta will be hosting a Tequila Tasting directly from the State of Jalisco, Mexico. The Tequila Tasting will takes place on the Tequila Pavilion. Tequila tasting hours are Fri.(5-10 p.m., Sat. & Sun. (2 -10 p.m.). Separate admission is required for the tasting, which is for adults only.
The sanctuary honoring Our Lady of Zapopan, directly from Jalisco, Mexico, is open all three days of the festival from noon to midnight. Confessions will be heard daily (6 - 8 p.m.) each day. On Sunday, a lakefront procession at 10:15 a.m. will be followed by Mass., with principal celebrant Mons. Silvio Jose Baez Ortega, O.C.D, Auxiliary Bishop of Managua, Nicaragua.
Festival admission at the gate is $15 for adults, free for children 8 and under. Please see the festival website for additional information.
